Scope
This notice describes how the Bingo prototype handles personal information. Bingo is a UC Irvine INF 43 course project (Group 10) and is not currently operated as a public service. Where the product launches beyond UCI, this notice will be updated and materially significant changes will be communicated to existing accounts.
What we collect
Account information you provide directly: username, profile photo(s), bio, InterestTags, DiscoveryRadius, optional HomeZone. Device information necessary to operate the service: an approximate Location, derived from a geolocation source you authorize, plus application logs sufficient to debug and protect the service. Content you create: Messages, BingoMemories, HotSpotThread posts.
What we never store
We never store images or scans of government-issued identification. AgeVerification is performed by a third-party provider; the provider returns a verified date of birth and a status flag. The document itself never reaches Bingo's systems.
Location handling
Your Location is processed against the visibility rules described on the /safety page. Outside your HomeZone the broadcast value is your real position plus a per-user noise offset of up to 75 meters; the offset rotates daily. Inside your HomeZone nothing is broadcast at all.
Who can see your data
Profile fields and public InterestTags are visible to users who currently form a Match with you. Private InterestTags are visible only to viewers who also hold the same tag. The visibility check fails closed — if it errors for any reason, the tag is hidden. Messages are visible only to the two participants in the relevant MessageChannel.
Data retention
Account data persists until you delete the account. Messages persist in their MessageChannel as long as the channel exists. MessageRequests expire after 7 days. Deleted-account data is purged from production systems within 30 days; backups age out on a separate schedule.
Your controls
You can update or remove any InterestTag at any time. You can change your DiscoveryRadius. You can add, modify, or remove your HomeZone. You can Block any user from every conversation view. You can export and delete your account from Settings → Danger zone.
Children
Bingo is not intended for users under 18. Age-restricted tags require AgeVerification; users who fail verification cannot select those tags.
